A lot of quadrilaterals are used in our daily life. In fact, many of the things we see in our daily life are resembling the regular mathematical shapes like circle, quadrilateral, triangle, etc. Some amount of fillet or chamfer is given to those mathematical shapes and the products are manufactured.

At first let’s understand what quadrilateral is.

Quadrilateral is a four-sided polygon having four angles. That includes square, parallelogram, trapezium, kite, etc within it.

Now let’s see where quadrilaterals are used.

In electronic devices like mobiles, laptops, computers, TVs, etc.

In stationery items like books, copies, chart-papers, etc.

The list goes countless as we can’t imagine the world without quadrilaterals. Wherever you see four sides, quadrilateral is involved there.

From the laptop key I am pressing to the monitor screen I am viewing, quadrilaterals are involved. The laptop which is in rectangle shape sitting on my square-shaped table requires rectangle shaped floor to stand. Pillars supporting floor and roof are not left with quadrilaterals not being involved.

Answer:

Quadrilaterals had very powerful properties that helped ancient painters, architects and designers to discover many things in the field of art, design and architecture.

For example, the property of the diagonal of rectangle forming two congruent triangles lead to the construction of The Great Pyramid by the Egyptians. Similarly, this phenomenon of congruency also used by Leonardo Da Vinci to create his most popular painting “Monalisa”.

A square is a quadrilateral that are usually used for uniformity. These shapes are the same in all their sides. Hence, they will fit together when they are repeated. Hence, they are often referred to as regular polygons. This applies even for rectangles and diamonds.

Also, when we rotate a square, the sides of the original square and the translated square after rotation will match.

A trapezium is another quadrilateral having a wide base and a narrower top or even vice versa. Such shapes are very useful in field of architecture and construction of buildings.

There are other irregular quadrilaterals which have the capacity to make things look good. Hence, they are used mostly by designers. Because of their inability to be uniform, they make good designs and attract the eyes.
