MY FIRST INSPIRE
BY VIVEKANANDA
During my high school days, as a young kid I was just playing all the while with my friends. There was no greatly inspiring teachers or gurus to guide me or tell me what to do in life? To my goodness came January 12th – anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, during when Sri Ramakrishna Math, Coimbatore conducted a Quiz competition based on one of their books “The Life of Swami Vivekananda”.
The competition is like this, they conducted a book fair in our school, students who are interested to participate should buy this book, read it thoroughly and questions will be asked from the book. One of my classmates and I were a team, we won at school level, won at town level (Tirupur) and went to District level (Coimbatore) for the finals.
Though we failed to get first place at District, what I got is the book and the knowledge I gained by reading it more than 50times. I could tell every incident from Swamiji’s life in perfect chronological order. I could remember every thing that was described in the book. By then I developed a great love and admiration towards his life, his teachings and his philosophy. I also realised that, books are great ways and means to connect with and learn from great masters of this world. He became my first inspiration in life.
Since then each and every notebook of mine had the following in first page, till I completed my engineering degree.Swamiji was one of the greatest spiritual leaders of the modern world, a great lover of humanity whose unconditional love extended to all people without any distinctions of caste, class, creed, race, region or religion. Swami Vivekananda believed a country’s future depends on its people; his teachings focussed on man making. Swami Vivekananda was the principal reason behind the enthusiastic reception of yoga, transcendental meditation and other forms of Indian spiritual self-improvement in the West.
Some inspiring quotes from the very mission of his life – “Man Making”:
To succeed, you must have tremendous perseverance, tremendous will. “I will drink the ocean”, says the persevering soul; “at my will mountains will crumble up”. Have that sort of energy, that sort of will; work hard, and you will reach the goal.
Mountain-high though the difficulties appear, terrible and gloomy though all things seem, they are but Maya. Fear not, and it is banished. Crush it, and it vanishes. Stamp upon it, and it dies.
The whole life is a succession of dreams. My ambition is to be a conscious dreamer, that is all.
In a day when you don’t come across any problems — you can be sure that you are traveling in the wrong path.
Take up an idea, devote yourself to it, struggle on in patience, and the sun will rise for you.
To me the very essence of education is concentration of mind, not the collecting of facts.
According to Swami Vivekananda, It is in the transformation of man through moral and spiritual education that he finds the solution for all social evils.
