The credit for developing norms to regulate Forest in India goes to a German expert Diet rich Brandis. 

Indian Forest Service was set up in 1864

Indian Forest Act was enacted in 1865

Imperial Forest Research Institute was started in 1878. From 1906 this came to called as Forest Research Institute.

The Indian Forest Act, 1927, is still continuing in India.

Scientific forestry was adopted to make the fields as the revenue sources.

The category of forest were
1. Reserved forests
2. Protected forests
3. Village forests

Out of these forest People were not allowed to use Reserved forests but they could, following certain conditions, use other two forests.
