How was Helen able to cope with her disabilities in the beginning.

Helen Keller was for me growing up the person I most aspired to be like. I admired her after reading books written by her and about her. You would be best served to do the same. 

She NEVER overcame her disabilities. Her disabilities were a part of her until the day she died. She survived, thrived, excelled at life WITH her disabilities. Do not shortchange her accomplishments which would be amazing even had she not had a single disability.
