Formation of Tawa Matsya Sangh:

• In 1994, the government provided private workers the rights to fish in the Tawa reservoir.  

• However, these workers drove the local people away and got inexpensive labor from outside for their work.  

• Also, the workers threatened the villagers, who were reluctant to leave, by bringing in hoodlums.  

• The villagers stood integrated and definite that they had to set up an organization and do something to defend their rights. This is why the Tawa Matsya Sangh (TMS) was formed in 1994.
