The administration of the Ahom state was organised in the following manner:
1. The Ahome state depended upon forced labour or paiks.
2. The census of the population was taken.
3. Each village had to send a number of paiks by rotation.
4. People from heavily populated areas were shifted to less populated places. Ahom clans were thouse broken up.
5. By the first half on the 17th centuary, the administration become quite centralised.

The alarm is state dependent upon force labour. Those forces to work for the state where known as paiks. A Census of the population was taken. Each of the village had to send the number of paiks by rotation.

People of densely populated Areas where shifted to thinly populated areas. A home clans were thus broken up. By the first half of the 17th century the administration became quite centralised.


Almost all adult meals served in the army during wars. At other time they were involved in building dams ,irrigation systems and other public works.


Ahom society was divided into classes or Khels, a Khels  controlled serval villages. The peasants  was given Land by his village community ,which even the king could not take it easily.Ahom society was sophisticated. Poets and Scholars were encouraged and given land grants.
