How was the British system of education different from the earlier system of education?

Earlier education system favored Hindi and rest of the languages while British system of education favored English.

British education system focused on STEM (science, technology, engineering, maths) subject. It was basically meant to gather peons or clerks for the British raj. It discarded the system of gurus and the guru ashram. So basically it brought down the creativity of Indian people and is being continued till date. But it also helped people get the idea of democracy, science, machines etc. There are positive as well as negative sides to it.
