The french society was organised on the basis of the system of old regime which refers to the establishment of monarchs and the practice of the system of estates .
The society was divided into three estates as follows:
1-Clergy - It included the church and its officials . It had various powers in order to collect tax from the third estate .
2-Nobility - Included members of the royal council , ministers etc
Together the clergy and nobility enjoyed certain privileges .
They did not have to bear the pain of paying taxes to the state.
3- 3rd estate - It comprised of workers , labourers , lawyers etc.
They had the burden to bear alone the financial unstability of the society .
They were treated unfairly .

French society was divided into 3 estates.
Third estate consisted of small businessman, traders, court lawyers, government officials and ect., and they made 90% of the population but only 60%of them cultivated on their land. They only had to pay the taxes.
First and second estates where clergy and nobility, they enjoyed certain privileges by birth, the main privilege is exemption from paying tax. Nobles also enjoyed some feudal privilages ie., they can collect taxes from peasants and peasants should render services to nobles, working on their land or house and building roads.
churches to extracted taxes from third estate called as tithes and third estate had to also
pay direct and indirect taxes called as tailes.
