Mahalwari system was introduced in 1833 during the period of William Bentick. ... The Mahalwari system had many provisions of both the Zamindari System andRyotwari System. In thissystem, the land was divided into Mahals. Each Mahal comprises one or more villages.

This system established a direct settlement between the government and the ryots ex. The cultivators. The revenue was directly collected from the cultivator and it was quite high.......

The widespread resentment among the farmers of North India between 1830 to 1840 was one of the cause of the revolt of 1857.....
