Petroleum (also known as crude oil or simply oil) is a fossil fuel that was formed from the remains of ancient marine organisms. Millions of years ago, algae and plants lived in shallow seas. After dying and sinking to the seafloor, the organic material mixed with other sediments and was buried.

Petroleum is a fossil fuel that is dug out from under the earth’s crust. It is produced due to a huge catastrophic event on earth.

Explanation:

  • The animals like a dinosaur and others who died due to meteors, volcanos, and everything was dipped into earth’s surface.
  • The animals were buried under the layer of earth. Then it’s decomposition in the absence of air produced the fossil fuels.
  • The solid particles like bones and flesh were converted into coal. And,  lipids and fats were converted into the petroleum fuel i.e. into short and long-chain fatty acids remaining in a suspension.
