* revolt of 1857 is often referred as the first  war of independence
* which was the revolt of many factors
the reason which caused the revolt was something totally new. It was not a fight for the Princely Kingdom or a Race, it was a common discontent among the people as one community. For the first time there was a desire of overthrowing the foreign rulers and for the first time, there was an organized (relatively) attempt to do so. This revolt made the British realize that they couldn't simply impose their way of life as they like but allow certain rituals and ways that prevailed in the culture. They also realized what Indians and India as a community could do if irritated beyond tolerance. SO this was a very successful attempt on the part of Indians for those who sacrificed for the cause inspired thousands to continue the struggle and this is my friend very PROFOUND for us as Indians
