If the sentence given, contain two parts, the first one which is reporting verb and the second one the reported speech separated by a comma(,) ,then it is in direct form.

If the sentence is in a simple form both the parts of direct speech is connected by a conjunction ,then it is in indirect form.

Easy way to remember is always direct speech has its reporting verb as said or says. Direct speech is always return in inverted commas while inverted commas should not be used when we write in indirect speech. In indirect speech there shall be no comma after reporting verb and the reported speech is always written in past simple, past progressive, past perfect and past perfect progressive.

hope it helps..........
