The particles of matter have space between them. It can be demonstrated by performing a simple experiment, which is as follows-

Steps

1) Take a glass, fill it upto half with water and give a mark from outside at the water level.

2) Add a spoon of sugar and stir it well.

3) Observe the water level after doing so.

Result-

The water level is the same as taken initially.

This indicates that sugar particles have accommodated the space that is present between the molecules of water.
