1. Place the compass at one end of line segment.
2. Adjust the compass to slightly longer than half the line segment length.
3. Draw arcs above and below the line.
4. Keeping the same compass width, draw arcs from other end of line.
5. Place ruler where the arcs cross, and draw the line segment.

To draw a perpendicular bisector,
Follow the following steps:
I) Draw a convenient line for example, take 6 cm as measure.Mark it as AB
II) Take more than half of the line of AB with compass as radius and draw arcs taking A as centre, one on each side of the line.
III) Follow the IInd step taking B as centre.
IV) Mark the points as C and D
V) Join CD.
VI) Given is the needed diagram.
