1) The phenomenon of lightning is based on electrostatic forces between opposite charges that gather on the clouds due to friction caused by moving air. A lightning discharge can be destructive.

2) A woolen jacket when removed from the body causes the static charges to neutralize producing a ‘crackling sound’.

3) After a hair-wash when the hairs are combed with a ‘plastic comb’ one can listen to the ‘crackling sound’ that is produced during the neutralization of static charges, which are separated from the hair and the comb, due to friction (rubbing).
