Prashastis are eulogistic records of court poets written in praise of kings and their patrons. These records are bardic and devoid of facts, whereas kalhana's rajatarangini is considered to be the first historical record in modern sense, the book presents clear picture of medieval kashmir and had no links with court life, whereas prashastis do not present a picture of social life
