How were Sher Singh`s hopes shattered when he reached the second river? what state was the river in? what had hapened to the bridge?

he didn't expected to have flood at that time of the year.the river was in floods because of the melting of the snow.even the bridge over the river was submerged because of sudden floods in the river.
