Answer. The information printed in newspaper are usually affected by the views and opinions of the reporters, news editors etc. But what historians find in police reports are usually true and realistic.

Police reports represents the official view of the state about an event and thus may be biased and prejudiced. while on the other hand the old newspapers mostly represented the facts as they are and recorded the events from the view point of common man. So the information for a historian would be different from these sources.
