Birds do not see the terrain below exactly the way human beings do from the sky. They are able to see more colours, vividly and sharply than human beings.

With the exception of night flying birds, it has been proven that birds eyes are more sensitive to ultraviolet light, which intensifies the normal colours. Hence, they are able to see more colours, vividly and sharply than human beings.

Birds, as we all know have great pair of eyes. They can spot with great perfection from above 1000 feet to an area of 3 square kilometer, which is just amazing.

The main reason is they have rods. The rods in the eyes of say, eagles helps them to allow more light inside their eyes, which makes their eyes that much stronger, and cones in their eyes allows them to detect color with ease.

This is why spotting terrain from above becomes easier for the birds, which is impossible for human eyes.
