STEP1: Ethanol reacts with PCl3 to give ethyl chloride.

STEP2 : Ethyl chloride reacts with KCN to give propane nitrile.

STEP3: Propane nitrile reacts with NaNO2 in the presence of HCl and LiAl4 to give 1-propanol.

STEP4 : 1-propanol reacts with KOH, it gives propene.

STEP5 : propene with water and heating gives 2-propanol.

STEP6 :on heating 2-propanol in the presence of Cu give propanone as the desired product.
