✔✔ Ethane is a molecule with formula CH3-CH3 and that of ethene is CH2=CH2. So conversion of ethane to ethene is basically a dehydrogenation reaction.

✔✔ Ethane can be reacted with Br2 gas in presence of NBS(N-Bromosuccinamide) which would yield molecules of Bromoethane.

Ethane ( CH_{3}CH_{3} ) can be converted into ethene ( CH_{2}=CH_{2} ) by following step of reactions -

(i). React ethane ( CH_{3}CH_{3} ) with bromine ( Br_{2} ) in the presence of sunlight , bromoethane ( CH_{3}CH_{2}Br ) is formed .

(ii). React bromoethane ( CH_{3}CH_{2}Br ) with alcoholic potassium hydroxide ( KOH ) , ethene ( CH_{2}=CH_{2} ) is formed .

The chemical reactions are as follows -

CH_{3}CH_{3}  + Br_{2}  →  CH_{3}CH_{2}Br + HBr

CH_{3}CH_{2}Br + KOH ( alc. )  →  CH_{2}=CH_{2}

  • The molar mass of ethene ( CH_{2}=CH_{2} ) is 28.05 g / mol .
