Ethane ( CH$_{3}$CH$_{3}$ ) can be converted into ethene ( CH$_{2}$=CH$_{2}$ ) by following step of reactions -

(i). React ethane ( CH$_{3}$CH$_{3}$ ) with bromine ( Br$_{2}$ ) in the presence of sunlight , bromoethane ( CH$_{3}$CH$_{2}$Br ) is formed .

(ii). React bromoethane ( CH$_{3}$CH$_{2}$Br ) with alcoholic potassium hydroxide ( KOH ) , ethene ( CH$_{2}$=CH$_{2}$ ) is formed .

The chemical reactions are as follows -

CH$_{3}$CH$_{3}$  + Br$_{2}$  →  CH$_{3}$CH$_{2}$Br + HBr

CH$_{3}$CH$_{2}$Br + KOH ( alc. )  →  CH$_{2}$=CH$_{2}$
