Objective:
To determine that green leaves can make their own food by photosynthesis:
Experiment:
1. Take a plant with leafs having partial chlorophyll (for example: croton plant).
2. First place the plant in a dark room for 24 hours.
3. Then take out the plant the next day from the dark room and place it under the sun for about 30 minutes.
4. Take a leaf from the croton plant and then perform the starch test.
Observation:
- we will be able to observe that only the green parts of the leaf turned blue black on application of iodine.
- However the coloured parts of the leaf (without any chlorophyll) did not show blue black colour.
Conclusion:
- This proves that chlorophyll containing leaves can prepare their own food by photosynthesis.
- The non-chlorophyll parts of the leaf obtain their food from the manufacturing centres of the leaf.
Hope It Helps.
