When hydrogen of a hydrocarbon is replaced by a -OH group(hydroxyl group)
GENERAL FORMULA:-CnH2n+1
SUFFIX:-OK
Examples:-Methanol,Ethanol,Propanol,etc.
Aldehyde:-
When a hydrogen of a hydrocarbon is replaced by a -CHO group.
GENERAL FORMULA:-CnH2nO
SUFFIX:-all
Examples:-Methanal,Ethanal,Propanal,etc.

Hare this your answer , 1) the functional group of aldehyde is -CH=O and the alcohol is -OH.
