Using the acetic anhydride, you can distinguish the dimethylamine and trimethylamine.
On treating the acetic anhydride with the dimethylamine inside the aqueous medium, dimethylamine will show it is more basic.
But, when you treat the trimethyl amine with acetic anhydride in the same AQUEOUS MEDIUM, it shows the least basic character because of the steric hindrance created by alkyl groups.
