Take Sodium hydroxide ( NAHCO3) and add to both alcohol and carboxylic acid.
When alcohol and Sodium hydroxide react they do not produce anything.
Eqn ------ CH3CH2OH + NaHCO3 = no reaction and no effervescence.
When carboxylic acid and Sodium hydroxide react they form sodium exthoide
, water and effervescence (CO2) gas.
Eqn------ CH3COOH + NaHCO3 = CH3COONa + H2O + CO2
