● Doping semiconductors -
- Doping is the process of adding impurities to intrinsic semiconductors to alter their properties.
- Normally Silicon or Germanium are doped with impurities which increases conc of carriers.
● n-type semiconductor -
- Typical pentavalent (column V) impurity
- Usually Arsenic/Phosphorous
- Majority carrier - electrons
● p-type semiconductor -
- Typical trivalent (column III) impurity
- Usually Boron/Aluminium
- Majority carrier - holes
