Explanation:

A Grignard reagent is prepared from 24.5 grams of magnesium turnings, a crystal of iodine, 107 ml (or 137 grams) of n-butyl bromide and 450 ml of anhydrous ether. With rapid stirring, and cooling with ice if necessary, a mixture of 73.5 ml (or 58 grams) of anhydrous acetone and 75 ml of anhydrous ether are added.
