How will you prove that a given salt is a carbonate of a metal

The hydrogen ion will combine withcarbonate to make H2CO3 which will decay into water and carbon dioxide causing rapid bubbling. Therefore, if you add an acid to a salt in solution and rapid bubbling occurs, then it is a carbonate salt.
