It can explained by simple experiment

Take a candle, a glass jar and matchbox.

Light the candle and keep the candle inside the jar. You will notice that the flame of the candle after few minutes blow out or candle stops lighting. It will give a conclusion that burning can't take place in the absence of oxygen or air.
