How will you prove that hcl acid contains hydrogen and chlorine?

Hcl on electrolysis it gives rise to corresponding H+ & cl- ions keep the litmus paper in the solution if it turns its colour then we can say that it is an acid and it produce H+ ions similarly we can say that it also produce cl- ions.
