Experiment to Prove that Heat is Evolved during Respiration

Requirements: One Thermo flask, some germinating Gram seeds and a thermometer.

Procedure: Some germinating gram seeds are taken in the Thermo flask and closed its mouth tightly with a cork. A thermometer is introduced through the cork so that its bulb rests among the gram seeds. Note the mercury reading of the thermometer.

Observation: After some time an increase in the reading of mercury in the thermometer will be observed.

Conclusion: Rise of mercury indicates the rise of temperature. And this temperature is produced by the respiration of the germinating seeds.

Hope that would help you..........

ANSWER :

To prove or to verify that heat is evolved during the process of respiring, we have to perform an experiment which is described below :

Materials Needed : We have to take a thermo flask, and gram seeds which are in the stage of germination, and thermometer and cork.

Method : Take some gram seeds which are germinating and put it in the thermo flask. After that, close the flask using a cork.  Place a thermometer through the cork in such a manner that the bulb of the thermometer is placed on the seeds. We have to now measure the readings of the mercury in the thermometer.

Observation : It can be observed that the readings of the thermometer goes on increasing.

Conclusion : The mercury of the thermometer rises as the temperature increases. The reason for rising of temperature is the heat that is released by the respiring of seeds which are germinating.
