Answer:olfactory indicators are used to identify whether substance is base or acid. As these indicators shows significant changes in odour such as onion, vanilla, clove.
Onion:when onion paste is introduced to alkaline medium/substance it loses it smell while in acidic medium it retain its smell.
Clove:similar to onion, it too loses its smell in basic medium and retain in acidic.
Vanilla:also loses smell in basic medium and retain it in acidic.
