Due to this, they face many discrimination and disadvantages. Some are:
•The literacy rate among males 76% while females have only 54%.A small proportion of girls go to school compared to boys.
•The proportion of women among highly paid and valued jobs is still very small.
•In almost every areas of work, from sports to cinemas to factories and fields, women are paid less than men.
•In many parts of India, many parents prefer to have sons rather than daughters.
•There are reports of various kinds of harassment, exploitation and violence against women.
