rusting of iron is nothing but iron changing its properties with the help of atmospheric oxygen and water.
so the new substance which is formed out of rust,water and air is nothing butiron oxide.
4Fe + 3O2 = 2Fe2O3. ---->iron oxide!!!
this process is irreversable as it can not be changed back to irom again .so, it is called as a chemical reaction
