HCl activates the pro-renin to renin.Renin then metabolizes protein.Thus HCl thereby helps metabolize proteins from the food..
Under secretion or non secretion of HCl would result in protein defeciency diseases and can be lethal to our health.

If HCL is not released in the stomach then the medium of stomach will not be acidic and acidic medium is the necessary requirement for the protein digesting enzyme'pepsin' to act on food to digest
