Also, it is known that in a periodic table metals are placed on the left hand side and non-metals are placed on the right hand side. Therefore, metallic character decreases on going from left to right in a periodic table.
As we go from left to right, firstly there is increase in valency up to group 2 but then there is decrease in valency.
