Actually lustre is a physical property for metals or non metals. Iron does not give any lustre or shine in ordinary situations.
Whenever iron is subjected to be under the effect of air or moisture, then it would surely lose its lustre.
It can be kept inside a closed room.
Also it should not be subjected to external atmosphere and be oiled from time to time do that it does not get rusted after a long time.
According to me, these might be some of the options by which the lustre of an iron rod can be retained, or maintained.
