Pure water has a fixed boiling point of 100° C. This fact can be used to confirm that a colourless liquid given to us is water.
Take the colourless liquid in a distillation flask fitted with the thermometer. Heat the flask till the liquid starts boiling. If all the colourless liquid boils off at the same temperature of 100° C without leaving behind any Residue in the distillation flask it will be pure water.
