Animals such as cows, buffaloes, goats, sheep have symbiotic bacteria in their intestinal tract. These symbiotic bacteria possess the necessary enzymes to digest cellulose in the intestinal tract. They have the required enzymes for the breakdown or hydrolysis of the cellulose. No vertebrates can digest cellulose directly. The human beings cannot breakdown cellulose into its constituent glucose molecules as they do with starch.
