Transgenic species refers  to an organism that has been genetically infused with the genetic material of another organism.

This has been made possible by a technique known as Recombinant DNA, where scientists have made it possible to add human gene to a common bacteria. The bacteria is then able to produce the human protein that is encoded in that gene.

This is how scientists have been able to produce insulin from these transgenic species.

The scientists are able to remove a loop of the bacterial DNA (known as plasmid) and replace a portion of it with a human gene that encodes for insulin.

The Plasmid is then put back in the bacteria, which is then placed in fermentation tanks. The bacteria (now the transgenic specie) produces insulin which is then harvested and used as medicine.
