Human cells divide by two types of cell division:-

Mitosis and Meiosis

When Mitosis takes place in a cell, the new cells formed also have 46 chromosomes as their parent cell. Example - If a body cell has 46 chromosome and underwent mitosis, then the new cells will also have 46 chromosomes. Body cells undergo mitosis.

In Meiosis takes place, reduction division happens. Here the cell produced have 223 chromosome. Example - If a cell having 46 chromosomes undergo meiosis, then the new cells will have so that when they will fuse with each other, they will form a 46 number chromosome. sperm and egg cells go meiosis.
