As laterite soil isfound in the areas of high rainfall and temperature.
So the microbes and microorganisms get killed due to the high temperature.
Thus the humus content is very low.

“Humus content of laterite soil” is low because ‘bacteria’ in the soil are killed by the high temperature and water.

Explanation:

Laterite soil is mainly found in the region where the temperature is very high and it receives heavy rainfall. Due to this high temperature the bacteria gets destroyed in the soil. Hence there are no natural decomposers for decomposing the waste like animal bodies, vegetable peels and other biodegradable material. Hence there is low Humus content.
