Answer:

20

Step-by-step explanation:

Let us assume that there is x number of girls and y number of boys.

Again assume that each girl gets 'a' number of one rupee coins.

So, as per the given condition, each boy will get a '1.5a' number of one rupee coins.

Hence, each girl and each boy may get, 2 and 3 numbers of coins respectively and the number may be 4 and 6, or 6 and 9, etc. {Since the number of coins they get can not be fraction}

By the given condition, x+y =40 ...... (1) and

ax+1.5ax =100. ............. (2)

For a=2, equation (2) becomes, 2x+3y =100 ..... (3)

and for a=4, equation (2) becomes, 4x+6y= 100 ...... (4) and so on.

Now, solving (1) and (3), we get, (3y-2y) =100-80, ⇒ y=20.

Again, solving (1) and (4), we get (6y-4y) =-60, ⇒y =-30 {This is not possible since y can not be negative}

So, there is only one value of a, which is 2.

Therefore, in that case, the number of boys is 20. (Answer)
