Hi !

Aim:

To measure diameter of small spherical/cylindrical body using vernier calliper

Apparatus:

  • Vernier Callipers (For measuring)
  • Small Spherical body (like pendulum Bob) or Cylinder (For testing)
  • Magnifying Glass (For readings)

Procedure:

1. Find the LC of Vernier Callipers and note it.

2. Find the zero error by moving the Movable jaw close to the Fixed jaw. Note this reading.

If there is no zero error, record it as Nil

3. Take the testing element (Spherical body or a cylinder) and place in between the two jaws by adjusting the Movable jaw.

Ensure that the jaws holds the body without pressure and with grip.

4. Observe the position of the zero mark of the vernier scale on the Main Scale Reading Record the MSR just before the zero mark of the Vernier Scale Reading. This reading is called Main Scale Reading (M.S.R)

5. Note the number of Vernier Scale Divisions that coincides with the Main Scale Divisions.

6. Rotate the testing element by 90° and Repeat 4, 5 for measuring the diameter in perpendicular direction.

7. Repeat 3-6 for different positions of the body. Note each of the readings in tabular column.

8. Find total reading and apply zero correction

9. Take average/Mean of all the readings taken, show it in the results with units mentioned.
