Hydrochloric acid is present in our body because it helps us in proper digestion of food and roughage.But it doesn't harm us because it is present in our stomach and in our stomach there is a thick called MUCUS which protects us.

actually, u need a ph of 2 and below to digest what all u eat in ur day...
so, our tummy has oxyntic cells which secrete the so-called corrosive HCl into the stomach. BUt dont panic! u wont die bcoz of that! a layer of mucous prevent the acid from corroding ur stomach wall, and hence u r alive, asking me dis question! BINGO!
