The 10th term of an ap is - 4 and its 22nd term is - 16 find its 38th term

10th term = -4

A + 9D = -4 -------(1)

And,

22nd term = -16

A + 21D = -16 ---------(2)

From equation (1) we get,

A + 9D = -4

A = (-4-9D) ---------(3)

Putting the value of A in equation (2)

A + 21D = -16

(-4-9D) + 21D = -16

-4 - 9D + 21D = -16

12D = -16+4

12D = -12

D = -12/12 = -1

Putting the value of D in equation (3)

A = -4 - 9D

A = -4 - 9 × -1 = -4 + 9

A = 5

Therefore,

38th term = A + 37D

=> 5 + 37 × -1

=> 5-37 = -32

Hence,

38th term = -32
