A strip of copper metal is added to a concentrated solution of sulfuric acid. Concentrated hydrochloric acid solution is added to solid manganese(IV) oxide and the reactants are heated. Hydrogen gas is passed over hot iron(II) oxide powder. Hydrogen gas is passed over hot iron(III) oxide.
