Actually it resembles the property of both alkali metals as well as halogens... So it can't be said to which group it belongs...

Som142004: yeah but it is not. Hydrogen is a nonmetal and is placed above group in the periodic table because it has ns1electron configuration like the alkali metals. However, it varies greatly from the alkali metalsas it forms cations (H+) more reluctantly than the other alkali metals.
