Much cleaner! It reacts, very violently, with oxygen. Actually, liquid hydrogen and liquid oxygen is used. The reaction results in lots of thrust (exothermic reaction) and H2O (aka water).
Indirectly it is debatable if it is cleaner as you need a lot of energy to produce liquid hydrogen and oxygen (especially for cooling it down to a liquid state). The energy used may come from cole power plants which emit a lot of CO2.
