If an electron jumps from N-shell to the L-shell, the wavelength of emitted radiation will be 20λ/27

Given-

  • When electron jumps from N-shell to L- shell the wavelength of emitted radiation = λ

For M to L transition, n₁ = 2 and n₂ = 3

1/λ = K (1/2² - 1/3²) = 5 K/36

For N to L transition, n₁ = 2 and n₂ = 4

1/λ' = K (1/2² -1/4²) = 3 K/16

From the above two equations-

λ' = 20λ/27
